When comics industry veteran Vince Hernandez wanted to celebrate the launch of his hip-hop themed indie comic book Siria: Underworld Pimp Hustla he had the idea to bring the underworld emcee battles to the real world. He collaborated with KQBH-LP/Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory headliner Carmelita Ramirez-Sanchez and Hannibal Tabu, a veteran of the rap journaliism game as well as a comic book writer.

They brought a free event to the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory on a Sunday afternoon and Mars Era came out on top.
